What Size is Your Gospel?

One of the great tragedies in life is to miss out on the biggest opportunities that come our way, while pursuing small things that seem like big things. Many times in my own life, I have chased after small things, not realizing that I was compromising the bigger things that were available to me.

Small things are safe though and more often than not, we prefer to be comfortable and normal rather than going through pain and uncertainty.

This concept hit me right in the face earlier this week. I was at Passion 2010 http://www.268generation.com/passion2010/ watching a video about a young Chinese girl who had come to know Jesus through some American students sharing their faith.

She had grown up in a culture that values self-advancement as much as any civilization on earth. She talked of a story her grandfather had told her numerous times growing up. It was about a sparrow that worked hard every day to become something greater. The sparrow was focused on a little thing (success). I remembered what Jesus said: “Don’t be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7) It was this mindset that left her lost after circumstances in the competitive world didn’t work out.

And then she met Jesus Christ. She learned that salvation comes through a relationship with Him and that He loved her not because of how she performed, but because of Who He was.

In that moment, I realized that I had made the story of Jesus Christ and salvation a small thing for most of my life. I began to cry and wept tears of sadness and joy simultaneously. I asked God to forgive me, to forgive the Americanized churches and to restore the Gospel perspective of many believers in this great country. It is the greatest cause any of us could ever live for.

But we don’t have long.

How can we make the biggest thing a small thing? By misunderstanding the glory of God above. When we trade the Big Thing for smaller things, we end up missing out on the only real opportunity we have in life to make an impact that lasts. The difference is life and death.

Be real honest. What size is your Gospel?

Our vision is too small because our Gospel and our view of God is too small!

The truth is spoken largely thru the eyes of a new christian! Especially ones that are filled with the spirit! What a testimony we saw in her!

I don't have a gospel, don't need one. Don't want to meet Jesus and if I did, I would have to tell him that his father (himself) is a right sadistic bastard. Telling Eve not to eat from the tree and then putting the snake there was an evil thing to do.

You christians get off on the sin and redemption trip. Must be your masochistic personalities or low IQs. As for missing out on opportunities, you are missng out on experiencing life for what it is. When you die, you become ashes or worm food.

Phillip,

Thank you for your comments. By God's design, you have every right not to choose Him.

I have prayed that you will find salvation in Jesus, by the power of the Spirit of the Living God.

May he go before these comments,

Alex

You condescending pillock. 'By god's design'? He is a pretty bad designer. One inhabitable planet in a Universe and we had to wait 4.6 billion years between him creating it and us bursting into existance. What was he doing in all that time? The planet is two thirds sea and most of the rest is uninhabitable. Look at Haiti. The world is built on fault lines that kill thousands with alarming regularity and you can still find reasons to praise your inadequate god.

If jesus is alive, what has he been doing since he popped down to say hello?

Dusting my feet now...may God help you.

Will you please stop asking your god to help me? I don't have anyone else to ask to help you so I have to appeal to you directly. Open your eyes and look around. The bible was written by desert dwellers to explain their world. If god wanted to prove himself, he could do better than appearing in the grain of a door but he never will because he doesn't exist. He is the god of the gaps, that science is steadily closing and your religion will decline into insignificance within a few generations.
