Here’s the deal. Each one of us has a limited amount of a resource that is steadily dwindling away even as I write and you read these words.
It’s called time.
As long as we’re breathing, we all have the same amount of it in a day. What we do with it boils down to a couple things: priority & perspective.
- Priority means what’s important to us will inevitably dictate how we utilize or spend our time. Out of priority, we have a stack of stuff to do that is a result of this order.
- Perspective means how we view our purpose in life will shape how we apply our time. We either look to waste it/get through it (use it for ourselves), or we look to use it for good/protect and maximize it (use it for others).
Usually, there’s a direct relationship between time application and effectiveness. We fall into the “easy is quick” mindset instead of learning the truth that “process takes time.”
When we look to take the easy path, our priorities read like a selfish six-year old’s Christmas list. It’s full of a bunch of toys that won’t even be played with by the time New Years rolls around.
When we understand that things take time, our priorities read like a well-prepared response plan that addresses the needs of others in times of peril. Things like how we can help, how we can serve, how we can pray, how we can plan to equip the lives of others without hope.
Paul wrote: “The night is nearly over, the day is almost here.” (Romans 13:12)
We never know how long we have left, but the timer is running. Do you hear the tick tock of the clock realizing how important your time is? Or are you deafened by the silence of self-pacification?
